Annual Drumhead Service 2007

(Prince Edward, General Sir John Wilsey, Mr John Bush, Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire)

The Fovant Badges Society was proud and delighted to welcome to their Annual Drumhead Service, Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, and Royal Honorary Colonel of the Royal Wessex Yeomanry. This year we celebrated the Badge of the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry, which is a constituent part of the Wessex Yeomanry. To mark this event the RWY paraded-in their regimental guidon to the strains of their regimental march.

The weather had been threatening but passed without rain at the crucial time. As is now customary, the service was held in the barn at East Farm and with the additional seating (with grateful thanks to Ed Williams for making this possible) some 400 guests and friends were accommodated – probably the largest number ever present at the annual service. The service, led by the Reverend Rodney Harrison, Honorary Chaplain of the Wiltshire British Legion, was accompanied by the Shaftesbury Silver Band which enlivened the singing of the large congregation.

Following the service Prince Edward inspected the legion and regimental standards, and a special contingent of the RWY with their guidon. Tea was taken in the barn and many villagers and other guests were able to talk with the Prince as he moved informally through the barn
