HRH The Earl of Wessex Becomes Our New Patron
At our service in 2008 our President , General Sir John Wilsey, was pleased to announce that Prince Edward had honoured the Society by accepting our invitation to become our Patron; this gesture very much underlines Prince Edward’s interest and support for the work of the Fovant Badges Society. One of the badges is that of the Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry, a constituent unit in the Royal Wessex Yeomanry of which Prince Edward is the Royal Honorary Colonel. The photo shows Price Edward as guest of honour at the 2007 Annual Drumhead Service inspecting members of the RWY.

THE FOVANT BADGES SOCIETY 2010 DRUMHEAD SERVICE
This year what is believed to be a record number of 400 guests attended the annual Drumhead Service organised by the Fovant Badges Society. This year General Sir John Wilsey GCB, CBE, DL, President of the Society welcomed guests to the 2010 drumhead service. 2010 marks the 90th anniversary of the foundation of the Royal Corps of Signals and the 40th anniversary of the cutting of the royal signals badge on Fovant Down. Appropriately the Guest of Honour and key speaker was Major-General Ian Sprackling CB, OBE, a former master of signals, who attended with his wife.
The service was held at the large barn at East Farm thanks to the kindness of Edward Williams. Thirty seven Royal British Legion banners were on parade (also a record) and a guard of honour was provided by the Royal Signals. A contingent of Army Cadets from Devizes also attended and music was provided by the Shaftesbury Town Band. Over £1,300 was donated to the Society at the collection. |
