  • The Society has been enormously encouraged by the generosity of all those who responded to our restoration appeal. The target was achieved and the restoration of the Badges on Fovant Down has been completed.

  • However, that is not the end of the story. Contractors were employed to carry out the restoration programme; volunteer labour is no longer appropriate for this work. The same expertise must be employed for annual maintenance if we are to hold off for as long as possible the need for a further, more daunting, restoration project in the future. Annual maintenance, more thorough than hitherto, involves strimming all the grassy areas within the cattle fences and weeding and compacting the chalk surfaces. In addition, each of the Badges will be surface re-chalked every 3-4 years as experience dictates. At 2003 prices, this is expected to cost £15,000 each year. This is higher than our current and projected income level over the next few years.

  • How can you help? By becoming a member of the Fovant Badges Society, by making a donation, by using Gift Aid Relief, by supporting us at the annual Drumhead Service, by leaving a legacy in your Will. And telling your interested friends about us!
  • For membership (we suggest a minimum of £15pa) and donations, please use an application form – Click HERE to Download – or write to, or e-mail, the Membership Officer (click on ‘Contacts’). It is enormously helpful to us, and maybe to you, if you pay your annual subscription by Standing Order (on the application form), annually, quarterly or monthly. Members, and recent donors, receive the annual newsletter normally posted February/March each year.
  • A vital part of the Society’s income comes from reclaiming income tax on donations and membership subscriptions. Please use the Gift Aid declaration on the application form if it is appropriate to your circumstances.
  • As we are a registered charity, gifts made the Society by your Will are, under current UK legislation, granted exemption from Inheritance Tax liability. Should you wish to make such a provision, please consult your own solicitor, giving the Society’s name, registered charity No. 1045087 and long term address, The Fovant Badges Society, Fovant, Salisbury, SP3 5JL.
  • Join us at the Annual Drumhead service followed by a sociable cup of tea and meeting your friends on the lawns of East Farm, Fovant. Click on ‘Publications + Events’ for details.
  • Tell Your Friends about us. Give them our website address or ask for free, one-page leaflets from either the Publications or the Membership officers. Click on ‘Contacts’.
