Badges Walks

Please note: The Fovant Badges Society cannot accept any liability or responsibility for the safety of anyone visiting the badges or surrounding area.

  1. From A30 to East Farm and up to the badges via the west to east footpath. This is the most popular walk – however it is very steep and can be slippery.
  1. Drive up the Drove Road above the badges and walk down to the badges via the Iron Age Enclosure.
  1. Driving West out of Fovant on the A30 towards Shaftesbury, turn first left signed Broad Chalke / Bowerchalke and drive for about half a mile until you see a large metal gate on the left (just before a sharp right hand corner). From here walk up the hillside track and then walk 2.
  1. Memories and remainders from Fovant Military Camp – Park in Fovant Lay by (the one nearest Fovant village not the badges Lay by) and walk up the hill to Green Drove – turn left into Green Drove and after 50m you will see a flight of steps – this was the entrance to the WW1 Camp Cinema.

Now walk down the hill, towards the lay by where your car is parked and take the footpath on your right – up the bank and onto the kissing gate and up the hill. The badges should be behind you! Carry on up the hill keeping the trees and fences to your immediate left. After about 600m you will see some steps on your left leading down a steep hill. Walk down the first flight of steps to the flat section. To your right and left through the trees is the track-bed of the WW1 Military Railway that ran from Dinton mainline station to Fovant Camp. WW1 soldiers going to the Western Front, and some returning wounded used this line.
