The Fovant Badges Society has received a grant of £52,700 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) for its Centenary Badge Project. This is the second grant from then HLF in the last two years. Brigadier Mark Elcomb, chairman of the Fovant Badges Society, said that
“The Heritage Lottery Fund South West has given our WW1 Centenary Project a massive vote of confidence. We are extremely grateful to the team at Exeter.”
This exciting project will enable volunteers to take part in archaeological surveys of the badges site. A re-enactment of the building of the first badges back in 1916 is also planned as part of a series of activities to accompany the creation of a new Centenary Badge on the hillside this summer. The project aims to involve as many young people as possible in the badges story to ensure the continued preservation of these famous war memorials.
