Recreation of Fovant WW1 Camp
HLF funding has also enabled the Society to recreate a digital version of Fovant WW1 Camp, the Fovant Railway link to the camp and, as far as possible a snapshot of how the badges looked during WW1. The Society has employed Michael McHugh, who trained as a computer video programmer, to generate the Computer Generated Imagery. Using OS maps to fix the terrain and the various maps of the camp and railway line to locate the buildings and lastly photographic images of the camp to build the structures, he has created a series of video journeys through the camp and its environs. Please click on one of these links to take a journey around the W1 camp.
- New recruits arrive at Fovant by road and go to their camp hut.
- An early call from the sergeant and a run to the rifle range.
- An evening trip to the YMCA Hut for a sing along.
- The new boys decide to watch Charlie Chaplin’s latest film.
- Some wounded troops arrive by train bound for the hospital.
Centenary Education Project – Part of the project involves the commissioning of projects with Media Studies Undergraduates from Southampton Solent University. This year one of the teams shown in the picture below, added the soundtracks to the five computer generated recreations of Fovant WW1 Camp. We think that they have done a truly great job so thanks from the Trustees of the Fovant Badges Society! They are from left to right Lauren Ramsey, Alarna Moles, Beth Berrie, James Christmas and Elouise Bond. This is the second year of our relationship with Southampton Solent University and we plan to commission further projects next year. I should add that these projects do not involve any costs to the FBS other than time and effort on the part of the Trustees!
